The Standards of Practice Explained…

Just as building codes have been developed to provide minimum criteria for homebuilding the home inspection standards of practice outline the minimum that has to be done to be considered a home inspection... anything less does not constitute a home inspection.

The standards have been developed by the home inspector trade organizations; and also by those states that require licensing for home inspectors. This is good for consumers because if your inspector follows these guidelines you know your inspector is performing to his trade organizations or states minimum requirements.

(By the way…The home inspectors you have interviewed so far do belong to a trade organization don’t they? What about the BBB - The Better Business Bureau? Just because an inspector is licensed does not mean we are all equal.)

The majority of home inspectors and home inspection companies in business today follow these standards. However, a great majority of inspectors will never perform to a higher level of service and go beyond these minimum standards.

While performing a home inspection to the minimum standards is not a bad inspection; and there are situations when this type of inspection is all that is needed (our Basic Inspection Service fills the need for this type of inspection), there are times when more is necessary or desired.

This need is why we chose to pursue advanced levels of inspection services for our customers and created two additional types of inspections for those that want, need, or demand more than the minimum level of performance in their home inspection company.
